Pentagon security talks continue peace efforts between Lebanon and Israel

The United States described the security talks held at the Pentagon between the Lebanese and Israeli military delegations as “constructive,” as part of efforts to support peace negotiations. These diplomatic efforts continue in parallel with Israel's intensification of military operations in Lebanon and continued confrontations with Hezbollah.

US Deputy Defense Secretary Elbridge Colby announced that the Pentagon received military delegations from Israel and Lebanon as part of the security component aimed at supporting the ongoing peace talks between the two countries. The discussions were “constructive” and will form the basis of the State Department's political push next week, Colby said on the X-Platform. As Washington leads these diplomatic efforts, Israel continues to intensify its military operations on Lebanese soil. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that his forces had penetrated deeper into Lebanon, accompanied by intensive strikes by the Israeli army on multiple areas. South Lebanon has witnessed a marked military escalation, with Israel issuing warnings to evacuate villages and towns, some of which are located 40 kilometers north of the Lebanese-Israeli border. Israeli raids on three areas in Tyre district killed 11 people, including a paramedic and a Syrian citizen, and injured eight others. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health. On the political front, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, in his communication with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, stressed the need to make every effort to reach a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. Aoun considered this to be the “basic entrance to move to any other step.” For its part, Hezbollah responded by announcing a series of drone attacks on targets in northern Israel, targeting gatherings of soldiers The party also indicated that it had targeted Israeli forces trying to advance in the historic Beaufort Citadel area near Nabatieh. The Lebanese delegation participating in the Washington talks includes six officers from multiple disciplines headed by the Director of Operations in the Army, Brigadier General George Rizkallah, while the Israeli side is represented by the Head of the Strategic Department in the Directorate of Military Planning, Amichai Levin.
