On Thursday, the Saudi Gulf Club revealed the appointment of veteran Portuguese coach Jose Gomez to take over the position of coach of the first football team, as part of a contract that extends for two full seasons. This decision came after the end of the term of Uruguayan coach Gustavo Boet, who led the team in the last four games of last season under a temporary contract. Gomez, 55, has extensive experience in the Saudi league, having previously worked with several Prestigious clubs. The Portuguese coach led the conquest team from the middle of the 2024-2025 season until the end of the season, achieving an important achievement by saving the club from the specter of relegation in its first season, before leading the team to 11th place in the following season with 37 points. Jumeez's career in Saudi Arabia includes distinguished stops with Al Taawon and Al Ahli Jeddah clubs, where he won the Saudi Super Cup in 2016. This diversity of experiences gives him a deep understanding of the nature of Saudi football and its special requirements. The Portuguese coach has a proven track record at the continental level, having achieved three important titles during his coaching career. Alongside the Saudi Super Cup with Al-Ahly, he was crowned the African Confederation Cup and the African Super Cup with the Egyptian club Zamalek, reflecting his ability to compete at the highest levels.
