A 31-year-old Swiss man carried out a knife attack Thursday morning at Winterthur train station near Zurich, injuring three Swiss citizens before being arrested by security forces. The three injured were taken to hospital as authorities investigated the motives of the incident.
On Thursday morning, the train station in the Swiss city of Winterthur witnessed a serious assault incident with a white weapon, in which a 31-year-old Swiss man attacked and injured three people before security forces were able to arrest him. Zurich police confirmed in an official statement that the incident took place around 8:30 am local time (6:30 GMT) at Winterthur station, noting that the suspect is Swiss and was arrested directly at the site The incident. The security authorities revealed that all three victims were Swiss nationals, between the ages of 28, 43 and 52, and were immediately taken to hospital for treatment, without revealing the seriousness of their injuries. Video footage broadcast by Swiss media and social media showed the alleged attacker, a long-haired man wearing a dark shirt and shorts, running in front of the station before his arrest. Police indicated that Investigations are underway to uncover the motives behind this attack, while a comprehensive security plan has been activated in cooperation between the Zurich Cantonal Police, the Winterthur Municipal Police, the Federal Railway Police and the ambulance services. Located about 25 kilometers northeast of Zurich, Winterthur is Switzerland's sixth largest city and is known as an important transportation hub connecting several major Swiss cities.
