Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on the Ukrainian capital Kiev and other cities, using about 90 missiles and 600 drones. At least 83 people were injured and killed, according to President Zelensky.
Ukraine's capital Kyiv and other parts of the country came under intense Russian bombardment Sunday night, in one of Ukraine's deadliest recent attacks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the attack resulted in at least 83 people being injured, confirming that there were deaths without specifying their number. In their attack, the Russian forces used a diverse arsenal that included about 90 missiles of different types, including 36 ballistic missiles that are difficult to intercept. It launched a massive squadron of about 600 suicide drones that targeted locations across the country. Despite the extensive activation of Ukrainian air defense systems, President Zelensky admitted that they could not intercept all the missiles. A large part of the missiles managed to penetrate the defense system and hit civilian targets in the capital Kiev directly. Damage was concentrated in civilian areas, where three rockets hit a water supply facility, raising fears of unrest in the Residents' water supplies. Dozens of residential buildings and schools were also damaged, while a local market burst into flames and was completely devoured. The Ukrainian president sharply criticized his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, accusing him of directing military resources to destroy the homes of innocent civilians. He pointed to Russia's use of its new ballistic missile "Orshnik" in the bombing of the city of Bila Tserkva south of Kyiv. Ukrainian rescue and relief teams communicate operations amid the rubble, with the death toll expected to rise in the coming hours as searches of damaged buildings progress.
