The UAE achieved the first position in the Middle East region with sales of electric vehicles for the second consecutive year, accounting for half of total regional sales. This achievement is a reflection of the success of the National EV Policy and the development of advanced infrastructure.
The International Energy Agency's Global EV Outlook 2026 report revealed the UAE's superiority in the electric vehicle sector, ranking first regionally for the second consecutive year. The report showed that the country accounted for about 50% of total electric vehicle sales in the Middle East. This distinction is attributed to the success of the National EV Policy launched by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure In 2023, this policy aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles, expand the network of charging stations, and attract investments in sustainable mobility. Engineer Sherif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, praised this achievement as it reflects the proactive vision of the UAE leadership. He stressed that the results reflect the country's success in creating a stimulating environment for electric car manufacturers. This progress is in line with the Souq initiative Global Electric Vehicles ” and the objectives of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the Climate Neutral Strategy 2050. It also contributes to enhancing energy efficiency and raising the quality of life. The Ministry continues to work with its government and private partners to develop a comprehensive system that supports the spread of electric vehicles. This includes the establishment of the Emirates Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Company as a strategic step to build a well-developed national charging network.
