Egypt and Eritrea signed a comprehensive maritime transport agreement aimed at enhancing cooperation and economic integration between the two countries. The agreement comes within the framework of developing regional cooperation across the Red Sea and supporting the trade and development movement.

Lt. Gen. Kamel al-Wazir, Egyptian Minister of Transport, announced the signing of a historic maritime transport agreement with Eritrea, stressing that the bilateral talks went beyond the transport sector to include various areas of joint cooperation. In his remarks to the "Paper and Pen" program, the minister pointed out that the agreement aims to promote integration in the vital maritime sector. The Minister of Transport explained that the strategic location of the two countries as two riparian countries on the Red Sea opens up broad prospects For regional cooperation, he stressed that Eritrea and Djibouti represent an important strategic entry point for the Red Sea, reinforcing the importance of developing integration between regional ports and establishing new ones. The minister stressed the depth of the special relations between Cairo and Asmara at the level of political leadership and economic cooperation, describing Eritrea as “a very important country for Egypt.” He revealed that the Eritrean president praised the great boom in the Egyptian infrastructure In recent years, Kamel El Wazir announced the start of the implementation phase of the agreements in the middle of next month, as specialized Egyptian technical teams will go to Eritrea to start implementing the agreed projects. He expressed optimism about the future of bilateral relations, stressing that cooperation will benefit and integrate the two brotherly peoples.
