US Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed the main objectives of President Donald Trump's upcoming visit to China, stressing that the Iranian file is a top priority for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. In statements from aboard the presidential plane heading to Beijing, Rubio explained to Fox News that the United States has presented convincing arguments to the Chinese side about the need for it to engage in de-escalation efforts with Iran, stressing that “It is in their interest to resolve this dispute.” The US minister pointed out that the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz is directly damaging the Chinese economy, as Chinese ships remain stuck in the strait, threatening Beijing's exports, on which its economy depends mainly. On the nature of US-China relations, Rubio stressed the need to achieve balance in dealing with Beijing as the "greatest geopolitical challenge" to the United States, while maintaining a relationship stable to ensure world peace. The talks during the two-day summit are scheduled to include other vital files including artificial intelligence, Taiwan and trade, while Rubio confirmed Trump's commitment to basic US demands, including "non-nuclear Iran."
